Terms

Plain-English terms

The short version: pay once, use the app on your machines, get every update, ask for a refund within 14 days if it did not work for you. The long version is below.

What you're buying

Camera Shutter Count is a desktop application for Windows and Mac. When you pay, you get a licence key that unlocks the app. One payment, no subscription, no recurring charges.

Standard licences activate on up to three of your machines. Limited and Preview licences have their own caps and expiry windows; both are labelled at checkout. Where local law requires it, VAT is shown and charged on top of the listed price.

The app works offline

Camera Shutter Count is a native app that runs on your computer. It reads shutter counts, parses EXIF, tracks your gear, and generates reports, all locally. Your library lives in a SQLite database on your machine.

Once your licence is activated, the app continues to work without internet. It checks back with our server when it can, but the licence has a 365-day offline grace window: connect at least once a year and the app keeps working. That is the only thing it strictly needs the network for.

There are some online bits

A few features do talk to the internet:

  • Licence activation and the annual revalidation check
  • Software updates: the app checks; you choose when to install
  • Crash reports and product analytics: on by default, opt-out in Settings
  • Population stats: your camera model and shutter count compared against the rest

These online features are provided as-is. We will do our best to keep them running. If any of them ever go down, the app itself keeps reading photos and cameras exactly as it does today. You only lose the extras.

Refunds

Fourteen days from purchase. Email us and we refund you. No essay required.

Your licence

A Standard licence activates on up to three devices. You can revoke any of them yourself from your account at any time, then activate a new machine in its place.

The key is for your personal use. Do not post it in public and do not resell it. If we detect a key being shared online we reserve the right to revoke it. If yours leaks against your will, email us. We will revoke the old one and issue you a new one.

Updates

Free updates for the lifetime of the 1.x series. If we ever ship a 2.0, existing licence holders are offered a discount, not a charge.

Your data

Your photos, EXIF, gear list, and shutter-count history live in a local SQLite database on your machine. We do not have access to it.

Your licence key lives in the app's own local database on your machine, not in the system keychain. We can validate it, but we cannot read it back off your machine.

If we ever stop

If we stop developing Camera Shutter Count, the last version you downloaded keeps working. The licence check has a generous offline grace window so the app does not lock up if our server is gone, and if we ever wind the company down we will do our best to publish a final version that does not require the licence server at all.

Changes to these terms

If we change anything material we will bump the date below and try to email licence holders. We are not going to sneak anything past you.
